Everything You Need to Know About Coats This Season

It’s November and already getting pretty cold in here, so let’s talk about the fall/winter essential item: the coats. I take my coats very seriously. Because firstly, I want to stay warm. Secondly, it’s the only piece of clothing that people will see in the winter (unless if you stay indoors the whole day). The sad fact: no matter how cute my outfit inside is, people will mostly only see the coat. I might as well wear my PJs and cover it with my most beautiful cashmere coat, sssshhh… they would never know.

So here are my selection of coats that you’d need this winter.

The Classics

When I was in Paris 2 weeks ago, I started observing what kind of coats do the Parisians wear because they always look so chic and timeless. I noticed that there are 3 most seen coats: black long coat, black patterned coat, and brown coat. Most of them are long, which gives off mysterious yet that très chic look.

I know that a good quality long coat could cost quite some money, but think of it as an investment because you will be able to wear it for many years to come. The good news is, you can find such coats in vintage stores! Many of them that were made in the past are known to have better quality and you can buy them in a fraction of a price. Try to look for the ones that have a high composition of wool or even cashmere for better heat insulation. I always go for at least 50% wool.

The Pop of Color

While the classics will always be the most versatile option, don’t forget how a little color could brighten up your dark wintery day instantly. Go for the color that feels so “you” despite what is trending now. For example, if you like pink, but lilac is the trending color of this season, then go for pink. Because you know you will still wear it in the following years simply because you love the color anyway and it’s the color that makes you feel happy anytime.

Short Coats

They are perfect to wear if you want to move around more freely and lightly, and the temperature where you live is not too low that you don’t need to cover all the way down to your ankle. There are so many options in this department: wool blazers, safari jackets, belted or not belted, peacoats, etc. This kind of coat can pair really well with denim or knee-high boots. I mean, look at how gorgeous Isaya and Julie pairing their short coats with knee-high boots here!

Faux Leather Coats/Jackets

This trend will always come back every year. They are also the ones that I’ve seen the most on Instagram. We just love them for that badass “don’t mess with me” look, don’t we? These leather jackets can come in any length, colors (not only black!), and finishes (glossy or matte).

The Cozy Teddy

This is my personal favorite because let’s admit, who doesn’t like the feeling of being wrapped warmly in a fluffy blanket?

Teddy coats tend to make you look a bit bulky. If you are concerned about that, then pick the ones that have belt to accentuate your waist.

That’s it for now! I hope you find the right coat for you this season. Stay warm, everyone!
