Obsessed: Silky outfits took over LFW

Now that New York fashion week is over, it is time to cross contenants and head to the London Fashion Week with the amazing shows and fashionistas on board. Marking a week full of memorable events – A new beginning for Alexa Chung who’s presenting her first runway collection, Riccardo Tisci making his first appearance as the creative director of Burberry, Victoria Beckham’s 10th anniversary celebratory show,  JW Anderson’s, Port 1961 and one of the outstanding ones was Rejina Pyo with the right accessories and beautiful color palette, all of which are revealing edgy collections with key items that we all must have in our wardrobes.

One of the trends we’ve spotted during New York fashion week that was even more prominent in London is the use of silk in various items. The beauty of silk is that it never goes out of style, it always gives a high-end effortless look and makes your outfit stand out.

So what is the innovative take on this good old material?, we can see new items with different patterns, prints and colors, new ways to match the items in order to achieve a new look every time; transforming a casual day look into a night out look, a summery outfit into a cozy winter look using the same item and by pairing it with either sporty chunky snickers or elegant high heels, there are endless ways to wear this wardrobe staple. Street stylers in London kicked off the week with the hottest styling options if you’re on a hunt for inspiration.

Here’s what you need to know about the silk trend you’ll be wearing, ways to combine it, how to buy the right item in the perfect color or print to last you throughout the seasons.

Skirt it on

The skirt is the most familiar yet chic way to style it. You can pair it with a cool tee, hip sneakers for a sporty look or to take it to the next level by wearing it with a turtleneck sweater and high heels for more of a smart-look.

Day to night dresses

We’ve collected some of the best slippery silk dresses of the week for you. For an office-look wear it with mules, sneakers or boots and for a cocktail party simply swap the flats for high-heeled sandals or pointed shoes. Be unconventional and go for a bold print such as zebra, floral or slide into the land of braveness and get that mixed-print gown. The effortless day-to-night style is one of the best things you can add to your wardrobe.

Extra Layer

Layering the piece with an oversized, shoulder padded blazer, a trench coat or a bomber jacket during the cold months is not a sin. There are endless ways to style it to suit every taste and persona, all that is needed is a jacket you’re most comfortable in.

Pajamas style

Matching tops and bottoms in silk are the perfect solution for a lazy morning when you don’t feel like going to work. With the right print, a popping bag in contrast colors and polished shoes you can achieve an effortless, glam look without having to dig out every piece in your wardrobe and end up piling it all up on the floor.
