The fashion festival is about to come to an end. It began in New York and made its way through London and Milan to its final destination, Paris. We are starting this week with high expectations and curiosity levels for Hedi Slimane’s first collection for Celine, and while the anticipation for the big debut was being built up, we had some amazing shows that didn’t disappoint. So far so good… or should I say, extremely good?
Let’s start with Jacquemus who managed to shift us from chilly Paris to the most exotic beach vacation with the “La Riviera” collection. I thought he had me with his giant ‘La Bomba’ hat, but it seems as if renewal and creativity never stops for Jacquemus. Firstly, the location felt like a luxurious beach garden party at the Italian Embassy. The next surprise was the new sister of his popular hat – the gigantic straw bag that was just as impressive. It was matched to flowy items made of light fabrics that were already adopted by the crowd that occupied the first row at the event. Aligned with the new twist on the high sculpted heels wave, the brand’s ‘J’ sign was dangling off of a golden ring attached to the shoe. He definitely managed to get us obsessed with this nonchalant beachwear style of Summer 2019.

The collection of spring 2019 by A.W.A.K.E is the definition of a glorious match between Japanese tailoring and feminine elegance. The marriage between both worlds created interesting new silhouettes inspired by the traditional Kimono and tailoring language and was paired with womanly skirts and dresses. This mishmash came together with the use of prints of different landscapes, tailored plaid prints, soft pastels, a white monochrome, popping reds and earthy browns. This seemingly insane combo created the most refreshing, wearable looks.

Chloe’s show was all about bringing the bohemian girl to the casual work scene. Natacha Ramsay-Levi brought to the runway the women we all want to look like and created the most desirable chic looks. Each runway outfit was incredibly detailed and styled to the T with bags that gave a polished feel to the entire look, alongside other accessories including rope belts and necklaces, gold and silver bracelets, anklets, bangles, rings and earrings. Furthermore, the clothes themselves were also extremely detailed with a mix of florals, paisleys and crochet. This is the kind of work that you’d want to reexamine over and over again to be able to inhale it’s level of complexity.

Another promising presentation was that of Magda Butry; a Polish brand that was founded in 2014. It presented chic and modern floral dresses with big, puffy statement sleeves. It is definitely a brand worth following.

During the past month we scanned the hottest trends that ruled the street scene and runway shows, from earthy tones to bold neons, mixed patterns, huge belts, double bags and so on. These fabulous trends are still relevant to Paris Fashion Week, but are represented under a new light and different interpretations.
Pop your turtlenecks
We can’t consider the turtleneck a trend since it is a classic piece that keeps coming back every fall in different forms. The way the street girls pulled it off during PFW caught our attention. Think of a turtleneck sweater made of tissue-thin knit worn under a classy blazer, a turtlenecked shirt tucked inside stylish trousers or under a simple slip-dress. Another refreshing take on a good old item is the oversized chunky sweater that is easy to throw on on a cold winter day while still looking fashionable and on point.

Shift your tie
Usually we are used to tie a belt at the center of the body. However, doing it side ways was a reoccurring theme in the Parisian scene, a detail that spiced up any ordinary look.

Every layer matter
Contrast tights and socks were seen throughout the week, mainly showing under pants in a very 90’s-like vibe.
