How to master Parisian style in NYC in four easy steps

1. Neutral colors are your new best friend

Channeling this one from my main style inspo Christie Tyler of Nycbambi, a neutral palette wardrobe is so versatile and makes every look a bit more sophisticated. Of course this will not work for everyone, but I’ve found that white, beige, black, and warm tones work the best with my style and are quite timeless.

In addition, location is essential in achieving that beige-girl je ne sais quoi. My all-time favorite location to shoot in all of New York City is Soho. Hands down. From the white and cream colored pillars to the way the sunlight streams through at 3 in the afternoon, Soho has the perfect aesthetic for those of us who are looking for beige and warm toned backgrounds to take the perfect photo and to match our carefully curated outfits. Another of my favorites is the Public Library – the architecture provides a beautiful backdrop for photos.

2. Effortless hair is a must

Simple and elegant hair accessories are perfect for looking put together but still effortlessly Parisian. Toss your hair up in a silk hair scarf or throw it up in a loose ballet bun with a cute scrunchie and you’re all set! Atelier Des Femmes is my go-to brand for all things hair accessories, but I also recommend vintage stores such as L Train Vintage in the East Village to find a one-of-a-kind silk scarf.

3. Invest in comfortable, chic shoes and a pair of loose fit denim jeans

Living in New York can be quite tough on your feet (trust me), so investing in chic yet comfortable shoes is essential. Although I have yet to master this rule (I’ve always been the “fashion over comfort” girl), it is so important to have at least one good pair of shoes for walking around the city. A few brands where you can find comfortable yet stylish shoes include Via Spiga, Jonak, and Mango.

On a similar note, I have recently discovered the importance of a chic pair of loose fit, high waisted denim jeans. Pair them with a net bag or a circle straw basket to achieve a sophisticated yet laid back Bardot inspired look. Some of my favorite denim brands include Closed, J Brand, and Toteme.

4. Don’t forget to frequent French-style cafes and restaurants

@mvb

Frequenting French-style cafes and restaurants is essential for channeling your inner Parisian girl. Here are some of my favorite spots: La Mercerie The ultimate French-style experience. From the food to the interiors, this restaurant will transport you straight from New York City to the streets of Paris.

Sauvage NYC

Complete with golden tables and Parisian style outdoor seating, Sauvage is perfect for a brunch or dinner getaway to France.

Bakeri Williamsburg

The cutest little cafe in the heart of Brooklyn, serving pastries and coffee in a warm, French inspired atmosphere.

There are several different locations throughout Manhattan, but the one in Tribeca is an all-time favorite. Complete with seats inside for a proper dining experience as well as a more coffee-shop style seating area near the entrance, Maman is the perfect place for a quite aesthetic brunch with friends or an afternoon of coffee and reading. One more place: Laduree Soho.
