All around me the leaves are changing, the weather is cooling and New York fashion week has begun. It’s official: autumn is here.
And with the cooler seasons comes a change in the textures, tones and colors we use in everything from our fashion to our beauty.
But how when it comes to our skincare and makeup, how do we transition from the bright, light trends of summer to the deeper, warmer tones of autumn?
Scroll down for effortless ways to transition from summer to fall beauty.

Back to basics
As all French women seem to know so well, the foundation to any good routine starts with skincare; the key to a healthy, glowy look
While the past few years have seen the rise of Korean Beauty 10-step routines, this season marks a shift towards a more minimalist approach made up of high-quality basics.
The first skincare essential includes a gentle cleanser to take the day off whilst protecting the skin.
While skin is at its most vulnerable during the change in seasons, try switching out gel or foaming formulas for nourishing, moisturizing alternatives, like cleansing oils, balms and milks.

Alternatively, go French girl chic with a classic such as micellar water, which is gentle yet effective enough to remove everything from foundation to eye makeup.

Next, keep the post-summer glow going with a regular exfoliation using a gentle chemical toner two to three times a week to reveal dewier, radiant skin while also protecting moisture levels.

Try French cult classic Biologique Recherche Lotion P50, a staple on the dressing tables of beauty insiders since it was created by Parisian scientist Phillipe Allouche forty years ago.

Or for a relaxing alternative to use before sleep, try a liquid exfoliant containing rosewater or natural essential oils.

About now, lighter summer lotions can also be replaced with a more nourishing day cream to keep skin looking healthy through multiple weather changes.
The ideal lotion will also contain an SPF of at least 20 to ward off UV damage still present even in the cloudier months.

Finally, also take time to give eyes that are tired from a late evening an extra shot of moisture with an under-eye mask.

Minimalist makeup
Next, we can move on to makeup. While Autumn is traditionally a time when oranges, golds and reds come back into play after several months’ rest, this year’s monochrome trend sees a more natural feel this fall.
Instead, these shades receive a minimalist update, seeing oranges turn to warm nudes, golds to caramels, and reds to warm brown shades.

In keeping with this pared-back trend, try a wash of one single color across the whole lid.

And pair with a classic cat-eye

Autumn update
This year’s Pantone Color of the Year, Living Coral, also receives a seasonal makeover.
Instead of cool, summery hues, think warmer tones to offset the colder weather. Equally wearable on eyes as it is on lips and cheeks, try a wash of color across the lids paired with a diffused smoky line below the lower lashes.

While for cheeks, keep this shade on the apples for a natural, glowy look.
